The Problem
The modern world view, especially in North America, emphasizes longing for a nostalgic past or a future that will be ‘better’ once we have acquired more...more credentials, more money, more power, more freedom, etc. It also tells us that we are isolated, disconnected beings in struggle with other isolated, disconnected beings for our little piece of a ‘better’ future. That future never arrives. Our identity (ego mind) is thus based on the constantly changing material world, ensuring chronic unhappiness and dissatisfaction.
The Practice
Yoga is the application of ancient wisdom strategies to modern problems. These strategies reveal the truth that the present moment, now, is where we live. Our true nature is not separate, but pure awareness connected to everything, now. Yoga is the practical art of living in the present moment, connected to the universe, yourself. Physical practices (Hatha, Asana), meditative practices (Nidra, Mantra), and life ‘choice’ practices (Ayurveda) are some of the Yogic strategies that can be applied to each unique individual in order to recognize her or his true place (asana) at home in the present.
