Yes, it's true. Not only CAN you sleep your way to enlightenment, it might be the ONLY way. Until we learn to differentiate between that which goes to sleep (the mind and the ego) and our true nature (consciousness), that never goes to sleep....well, we'll never actually be awake! So, come join us for a weekend of enlightening slumber.

What is Yoga Nidra (iRest)?

Yoga Nidra is an ancient meditation practice based upon experiential wisdom developed over the past 4,500 years.

Yoga = embodying our innate well-being
Nidra = across all states of consciousness

Yoga Nidra is a profoundly transformative practice that leads to lasting psychological change, as well as physical and emotional healing. It teaches how to live a contented life, free of conflict, anxiety and fear and suffering by revealing our inherent ground of health and wholeness of mind and body.

This immersion weekend of Yoga Nidra and Restorative Yoga will teach you how to embody skills that you can use throughout your lifetime, that provide a sense of confidence when encountering difficult situations, and teach how to embody joy and well-being throughout your daily life.

iRest is comprised of a 10-step process that helps heal the various internal conflicts present in our body, mind and hearts.

Yoga Nidra participants report that they...

Restorative Yoga is a perfect complement to the practice of Yoga Nidra. As we practice Restorative Yoga, we are encouraged to allow the body to be supported in restful variations of traditional Yoga poses, such as backbends, forward bends, twists and inversions. This practice allows for a return to wholeness, a re-member-ing of the whole and healing body.

Shanti House retreats are conducted in small groups in an extremely peaceful setting conducive to reflection, self-enquiry and 're-charging' of energies necessary to live life to its fullest.

Yoga Nidra and Restorative Yoga retreat schedule

Thursday: 7 - 9 PM Orientation, Introduction and Annamayakosha.

Friday: 7 - 8 AM, Body Sensing and Meditation; 10 - 12:00 Noon, Pranamayakosha; 4:30 - 6 PM, Manomayakosha.

Saturday: 7 - 8 AM, Body Sensing and Meditation;
10 - 12:00 Noon, Vijnanamayakosha;
4:30 - 6 PM, Anandamayakosha.

Sunday: 7 - 9 AM: Asmitamayakosha and closure, followed by breakfast and departure.

Afternoons and Evenings are reserved for private sessions, relaxation and seeing Denman Island.

Private Retreats

Make the most of dedicated time for your self by booking a personalized retreat. We have two options available for you:

Salutation to the Self

Take time for yourself and let Shanti House support you with the following:

  • Accommodation in the best available room with queen sized bed and private bath
  • Daily breakfast and dinner served according to your preferences (ie., vegetarian, vegan, etc.).
  • Daily personal private yoga/meditation session, arranged to your schedule
  • 1 Yoga Nidra session or optional activity/excursion
  • 1 relaxation massage

Your commitment for The Salutation to the Self retreat is $715 with a minimum stay of 2 nights/3 days (from noon on the first day to 4:00 pm on the last day). Additional nights are $100 each with accommodation and breakfast only; additonal full days are $225, including accomodation, meals and Yoga/meditation. Weekly rate, including 6 nights/7 days is $2000, with 1 additional massage and Yoga Nidra or optional activity. Maximum stay is 2 weeks.

Mahatma (the great soul)

Honour youself as the Mahatma you truly are. This retreat includes:

  • Sumptuous accommodation in the Sunflower room with private, attached bathroom and soaker tub
  • Daily breakfast, lunch and dinner served according to your preferences (ie., vegetarian, vegan, etc.).
  • 2 Daily personal private yoga/meditation sessions, arranged to your schedule
  • 2 relaxation massages
  • 1 optional activity or excursion (see list)

Your commitment for the Mahatma retreat is $1525 with a minimum stay of 3 nights/4 days (from noon on the first day to 4:00 pm on the last day). Additional nights are $115 each with accommodation and breakfast only; additonal full days are $350, including accomodation, meals and personal Yoga/meditation sessions. Weekly rate, including 6 nights/7 days is $2700, with 1 additional massage and 1 additonal activity or excursion. Maximum stay is 2 weeks.

and for Couples...

The Salutation and Mahatma retreats are also available for the two of you. Deepen your time with each other by spending quality time with a significant 'other'. The Salutation (to eachother!) retreat starts at $950, and the Mahatma for two starts at $2,200. Please enquire about other options, extensions and weekly rates.

Group Bookings

Shanti House is available for bookings in addition to the regular B&B / Retreat schedule.

Private Small Group Retreats

We can tailor your own personal yoga retreat for you and a group of friends. Please let us know what your interests are and what dates you would like to attend. Some ideas we have available include retreats based on Belly Dancing, Permaculture and Gardening, Raw Food preparation, Kayaking, Poetry Writing and Appreciation, Reading groups, Visual arts, Bird and Butterfly watching, Ceramic arts, Bodywork...if you don't see it, just ask!

Site Rental

Present your own retreat at Shanti House. Daily, Weekend or longer we can offer you the use of the yurt (dependent on your activity), accommodation for up to 8 people (double occupancy), and the use of the B&B for meals and leisure time, hot tub, and the grounds to relax and enjoy. Larger groups can also be accommodated, please inquire.

Sample cost

Day Retreat, including the use of the yurt, dining room and sitting room, toilets, lunch and snack, tea and coffee: $35/person.

Weekend Retreat, Friday check in after 3 - Sunday check out @ noon, including the use of the B&B for eight people, the yurt (dependent on activity), five meals and snacks, $1,400.
